Fisher Center at Bard

A landmark of creative expression in the heart of the Hudson Valley.

About Fisher Center at Bard

Set amid the serene landscape of Annandale-on-Hudson, the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College is a striking fusion of architecture and artistry. Designed by Frank Gehry, its sculptural stainless-steel form reflects the surrounding Hudson Valley light and energy, signaling a place where imagination and performance converge. Since its opening in 2003, the Fisher Center has become one of the most innovative performing arts venues in the United States—a home for theater, dance, music, and opera that challenges conventions and celebrates creative risk-taking. As both a cultural landmark and an academic resource, the Fisher Center stands at the intersection of performance, education, and public engagement.

Within its acoustically refined theaters, the Fisher Center stages over 200 events each year, producing and presenting bold new works that push artistic boundaries. Through Fisher Center LAB, its renowned residency and commissioning program, artists receive the space and support to develop groundbreaking projects—many of which go on to achieve national and international acclaim. The Center is also home to Bard’s acclaimed programs in Dance, Theater, and Music, where professional and student artists collaborate in a vibrant exchange of ideas and techniques. The annual Bard Music Festival remains a cornerstone of its programming, illuminating the lives and legacies of great composers through innovative and immersive performance.

The Fisher Center’s mission extends beyond the stage. It is a living embodiment of Bard College’s commitment to creativity, equity, and public purpose—values shared with the Center for Curatorial Studies (CCS Bard), the college’s hub for contemporary art and curatorial innovation. Together, these two institutions form a powerful dialogue between the performing and visual arts, reinforcing Bard’s reputation as a haven for experimentation and cultural progress. As the Fisher Center prepares to expand with a new studio building designed by Maya Lin, it continues to champion the voices of artists who inspire change, deepen understanding, and reimagine what performance can be.
