Belden House & Mews

Historic charm, modern indulgence, and a refined retreat in the heart of Litchfield, Connecticut.

About Belden House & Mews

Belden House & Mews is a meticulously restored estate in the historic borough of Litchfield, Connecticut, from the same hotel group behind Troutbeck. Meticulously restored by Champalimaud Design, Belden House & Mews offers a refined yet inviting retreat in the heart of one of New England’s most picturesque towns. Occupying three acres on North Street, this landmarked property reimagines luxury hospitality with thoughtful design, layered interiors, and a deep respect for its setting and architectural legacy. Guests may choose to stay in the Colonial Revival elegance of the 1888 Belden House or the modernist sophistication of the 1959 Mews, each offering a distinct experience enriched by butler service, curated amenities, and exceptional comfort. While The Restaurant at Belden House & Mews and its jewel-box bar serve refined, locally sourced fare by reservation, the true spirit of the property lies in its hospitality and attention to every detail—from working fireplaces to rooftop terraces.

At the heart of Belden’s wellness philosophy is the Belden Bathhouse, a serene, private facility housed within the Mews. Guests enjoy a holistic spa experience, including a dry sauna, steam room, Japanese soaking tub, and salt scrub shower, as well as massage and skincare treatments powered by Wildsmith, the high-performance, nature-based British line. Adjacent is Belden’s seasonal 50-foot solar-heated pool, surrounded by landscaped gardens and Lawn Club games like croquet and boules. Fitness is equally thoughtful, with a fully equipped gym featuring handcrafted NOHRD equipment and optional guided sessions in Pilates, yoga, and movement therapy. Whether seeking restoration or energization, the Bathhouse and pool offer a sanctuary of quiet pleasure.

Just steps from the main estate, the Firehouse at Belden is a historic gem newly reimagined as a modern gathering place for meetings, events, and private celebrations. Originally constructed in 1891 by philanthropist Julius Deming Perkins, the Firehouse once housed Litchfield’s fire brigade, complete with a gentleman’s club upstairs, a bowling alley below, and even a small hospital on the top floor. Today, this richly storied space is accessible by footpath or direct parking entrance and serves once again as a hub of civic and social life—bridging Belden’s dedication to preservation with a forward-thinking approach to community and experience.
