MASS MoCA
The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, or MASS MoCA for short, is the preeminent contemporary art museum known for its expansive galleries and diverse exhibitions, sprawling the grounds of a former factory complex. Located in North Adams, Massachusetts, it is one of the largest centers for contemporary visual art and performing arts in the United States occupying a 16-acre campus that includes a complex of 19th-century factory buildings, providing a unique setting for large-scale installations and performances. Visitors to MASS MoCA can experience a rotating display of contemporary art including visual arts, music, dance, and theater. The museum also hosts a variety of live events and educational programs throughout the year.
Tourists
Tourists is a thoughtfully reimagined riverside retreat in North Adams, inspired by the spirit of the classic American roadside motor lodge. Set along the banks of the Hoosic River, this 46-room and 2-home property balances relaxed, nostalgic charm with a distinctly modern design sensibility. Light-filled rooms finished in natural woods and organic materials feel both grounding and refined—designed to be equal parts cozy refuge and basecamp for exploration. Woodland trails, sculptural installations, and river views invite guests to slow down, wander, and reconnect with the outdoors.
Beyond the rooms, Tourists unfolds as a social and cultural hub. The Lodge is open all day for coffee, cocktails, and casual bites, while the Airport Rooms—its neighborhood restaurant and cocktail bar—draws both guests and locals for retro-inspired drinks and elevated comfort food. A heated saltwater pool overlooks the river in warmer months, and a suspension bridge leads across the water to a forested campus used for yoga, live music, and quiet wandering. For longer stays or group getaways, nearby Tourists Homes offer the comforts of a private house with full access to the hotel’s amenities.
Perfectly positioned for exploring the northern Berkshires, Tourists sits just minutes from MASS MoCA, the Appalachian Trail, and Mount Greylock. Whether your days are filled with hiking, art, fly fishing, or doing absolutely nothing at all, Tourists offers a rare mix of style, warmth, and sense of place—making it one of the most distinctive places to stay in this corner of Massachusetts.
