Il Figlio Enoteca

At Il Figlio Enoteca, refined Italian cooking meets the warmth of a neighborhood favorite. Opened by restaurateur Scott Rosenberg as the next chapter following the beloved Il Barilotto, the restaurant offers a more spacious, polished setting while staying rooted in the flavors that built its loyal following. The menu leans into what Rosenberg calls “Hudson Valley Italian,” pairing classic Mediterranean technique with high-quality proteins and seasonal ingredients, all served in a dining room that feels elevated yet inviting.

The breadth of the menu reflects that balance. Antipasti range from grilled Spanish octopus with almond romesco to beef carpaccio finished with truffle aioli, while fresh pastas anchor the experience—think pappardelle with short-rib ragù, gnocchi in a four-hour duck bolognese, or agnolotti filled with maple-roasted squash and sage brown butter. Secondi dishes, including a marinated veal chop, red-wine-braised lamb shank, and pan-seared branzino, are the kind of indulgent, expertly executed plates best enjoyed out rather than attempted at home. A thoughtful wine list and Italian-leaning cocktail program round out the experience.

Il Figlio also marks the beginning of a small family of restaurants in Fishkill. Just next door, Rosenberg expanded the vision with La Sorella, a more casual daytime counterpart focused on breakfast and lunch. Together, the two concepts offer different expressions of the same philosophy—one polished and evening-driven, the other relaxed and daytime-friendly—creating a complementary pair that gives locals and visitors alike more reasons to return again and again.

La Sorella

At La Sorella Mercato, restaurateur Scott Rosenberg introduces an “elevated casual” café–market designed for everyday ease and enjoyment. Translating to “the sister market,” La Sorella blends the roles of coffee shop, lunch spot, and neighborhood provisions store, inviting guests to linger or grab and go. The bright, airy space encourages small pauses in the day—whether that’s sipping a cappuccino, picking up a pressed sandwich, or leaving with a bag of thoughtfully chosen pantry goods, flowers, or gifts curated with home cooking in mind.

The menu is simple, flexible, and quietly satisfying, with Italian influence woven throughout. Mornings feature pastries, quiche, egg sandwiches, and smoked salmon toast, while lunch brings soups, salads, and focaccia-based sandwiches layered with ingredients like mortadella, pistachio pesto, and burrata. Drinks follow the same unfussy approach: excellent coffee, fresh juices, and a short list of classic, low-key cocktails such as an Aperol spritz or a negroni. Guests order at the counter, but hospitality remains hands-on, with food delivered to the table and staff checking in to keep the experience relaxed and welcoming.

Designed by Ford Skoglund, the interior feels calm and restorative, with banquette seating, soft lighting, and greenery that make it an appealing spot for remote work, casual meetings, or an unhurried lunch. La Sorella also plays a complementary role within Rosenberg’s growing culinary vision. Located next door and connected behind the scenes, it serves as the daytime counterpart to Il Figlio Enoteca, offering a more casual expression of the same care, craft, and hospitality that define its refined sibling.
