Kingston Standard Brewing Co.
Kingston Standard Brewing Co. in Midtown Kingston is equal parts taproom, pizza hall, and gathering place. Housed in a former transmission shop, the brewery has been reimagined into a welcoming space with white brick walls, industrial lights, and picnic table seating. Guests can sip a rotating list of small-batch ales and lagers—everything from crisp pilsners and dry-hopped saisons to schwarzbier and pale ales—while enjoying oysters, lobster rolls, and hand-rolled sourdough pretzels. A softly tented patio extends the experience outdoors, making it a go-to destination in warmer months for locals looking to unwind with friends.
Founded by brewer Tait Simpson, oyster entrepreneur Kyle Needham, and creative lead Matt Owens, Kingston Standard was designed as a true community watering hole. The brewery reflects the team’s combined passions for fermentation, food, and design, rooted in Kingston’s unique culture and history. With its one-barrel brewhouse, Kingston Standard operates in constant experimentation, inviting patrons to taste new recipes and offer feedback as beers evolve from batch to batch. The menu is intentionally pared down to a few well-crafted dishes, reinforcing the brewery’s commitment to quality, simplicity, and seasonality.
More than just a place to grab a drink, Kingston Standard Brewing Co. embodies the spirit of Kingston: creative, collaborative, and community-focused. In a short time, it has carved out a reputation as a space that balances small-town charm with craft beer innovation. Lone Wolf
Established in November 2023, Lone Wolf is an intimate cocktail bar in the heart of midtown Kingston, drawing inspiration from renowned bars like Death & Co, Milk & Honey, and Dante. Created by Lisa Dy and Anton Kinloch—the dynamic duo behind the acclaimed Fuchsia Tiki Bar—Lone Wolf delivers a one-of-a-kind nightlife experience rooted in exceptional craft cocktails and a welcoming atmosphere. Born out of a challenging transition, the bar retains the spirit of Fuchsia by honoring its legacy every Sunday, offering a space where friends, creativity, and great drinks come together.
With Kinloch's expertise as a CIA graduate, sommelier, and bar program creator, and Dy's talent in interior design and hospitality management, Lone Wolf combines precision and style in every detail. The bar's kitchen and equipment were completely replaced, and every design element was carefully curated for maximum enjoyment. With a focus on spirits education, Lone Wolf aims to elevate the bar experience, encouraging guests to discover and enjoy better drinks. Mirador
Stepping into Mirador is like embarking on a vibrant journey through the heart of Andalusia, right in the center of Kingston. This tapas bar captures the convivial spirit of Spanish tabancos with its intimate setting and expertly curated menu. The bright yellow storefront hints at the warmth within, where dark wood accents and plaster arches evoke a classic European tavern. Co-owners Harry McNamara and Nick Africano have exquisitely blended their passions to create a place that is equal parts immersive and indulgent.
Nick Africano brings his rich expertise as a sherry educator, introducing patrons to the diverse, often underappreciated, world of sherry wines. Whether you’re savoring a tasting flight or trying the house martini with a sherry twist, each drink is a testament to his enthusiasm and deep knowledge. The wine list, almost exclusively Spanish, complements a tapas menu that celebrates both Spanish traditions and Hudson Valley produce. Dishes like lightly cured Spanish mackerel or patatas bravas, using local fingerling potatoes, exemplify this fusion.
Esquire's recognition of Mirador as one of the best bars in America underscores its unique allure—here, you’ll find more than just a place to drink and dine. It’s a lively hub for cultural exchange, where conversations weave through the intricate tapestry of food, drink, and camaraderie. Whether you’re a sherry aficionado or a newcomer, you’ll leave Mirador not just with a satisfied palate but with a story to share about your taste of Spain in the Hudson Valley.
Ollie's Slice Shop
Ollie’s Slice Shop is the newest chapter in the growing culinary story of the Ollie’s Pizza team, bringing their signature attention to quality and sourcing to a fast-casual format in the heart of Midtown Kingston. Located in a historic Broadway building—formerly home to Tony’s Pizzeria—this reimagined slice shop is one arm of a larger, three-part venture that also includes Fletcher & Lu, a provisions market, and Eliza, a wine bar and bistro. With classic New York-style slices, 20-inch pies, and hearty sandwiches like a meatball parm on housemade semolina, Ollie’s Slice Shop is poised to become a go-to spot for locals and visitors alike seeking quick, crave-worthy comfort.
While the slice shop offers a simpler menu than its High Falls sibling, the ethos remains the same: high-quality ingredients, thoughtful preparation, and a sense of place. Expect crispier, more traditional slices baked in an electric oven—cheese, white, vodka, and tomato—alongside plenty of topping options and extras like garlic knots and Caesar salads. With limited seating and a beer and wine license for those who want to linger, it’s designed primarily for grab-and-go dining. But behind the scenes, a shared commissary kitchen connects all three businesses, allowing the team to maintain quality, reduce waste, and create a vertically integrated ecosystem that supports the broader evolution of Midtown Kingston’s food scene.

Rough Draft Bar & Books
In the heart of Kingston's Stockade district, Rough Draft Bar & Books has carved out a singular space where beer taps meet bookshelves, and espresso pairs as easily with a novel as it does with a neighborly chat. Founded in 2017 by Amanda and Anthony Stromoski, former Brooklynites turned small-business visionaries, Rough Draft blends bookstore, bar, coffee shop, and event space into one warm and highly social community hub. Set in a historic building at the city’s Four Corners, the space brings together exposed brick, cozy seating, and an ever-rotating selection of new books and locally sourced drinks—from Hudson Valley craft beers to Counter Culture coffee and Aussie-style savory pies.
But Rough Draft isn’t just a vibe—it’s a smart business model. By combining multiple revenue streams (books, booze, coffee, snacks, and merch), the Stromoskis have built resilience into their business, weathering the pandemic with strategic pivots like home delivery, outdoor seating expansion, and online ordering. Events like author readings, trivia nights, and brewery showcases draw a loyal following, while the bar’s casual, come-as-you-are atmosphere has made it a magnet for creative meetings, local families, and remote workers alike. Named for both literary drafts and draught beer, Rough Draft is more than a bookstore or bar—it’s a thoughtfully unfinished place where ideas, friendships, and good stories continue to unfold.

Tubby's
Since opening its doors in 2018, Tubby’s in Midtown Kingston has become a cornerstone of the Hudson Valley’s underground music scene. Today, Tubby's has grown into one of the region’s most vital and beloved venues. Hosting a mix of indie legends, avant-jazz icons, noise rockers, and rising experimental acts, Tubby’s punches far above its 100-person capacity, cultivating a loyal audience and a stacked roster of performers who return again and again for its unmatched vibe and hospitality.
More than just a bar or club, Tubby’s is a community-built haven for artists and audiences alike.
