Il Figlio Enoteca

At Il Figlio Enoteca, refined Italian cooking meets the warmth of a neighborhood favorite. Opened by restaurateur Scott Rosenberg as the next chapter following the beloved Il Barilotto, the restaurant offers a more spacious, polished setting while staying rooted in the flavors that built its loyal following. The menu leans into what Rosenberg calls “Hudson Valley Italian,” pairing classic Mediterranean technique with high-quality proteins and seasonal ingredients, all served in a dining room that feels elevated yet inviting.

The breadth of the menu reflects that balance. Antipasti range from grilled Spanish octopus with almond romesco to beef carpaccio finished with truffle aioli, while fresh pastas anchor the experience—think pappardelle with short-rib ragù, gnocchi in a four-hour duck bolognese, or agnolotti filled with maple-roasted squash and sage brown butter. Secondi dishes, including a marinated veal chop, red-wine-braised lamb shank, and pan-seared branzino, are the kind of indulgent, expertly executed plates best enjoyed out rather than attempted at home. A thoughtful wine list and Italian-leaning cocktail program round out the experience.

Il Figlio also marks the beginning of a small family of restaurants in Fishkill. Just next door, Rosenberg expanded the vision with La Sorella, a more casual daytime counterpart focused on breakfast and lunch. Together, the two concepts offer different expressions of the same philosophy—one polished and evening-driven, the other relaxed and daytime-friendly—creating a complementary pair that gives locals and visitors alike more reasons to return again and again.

Parking: Ample street parking is available in the vicinity
Vibe: Elevated yet welcoming, perfect for both special occasions and everyday evenings
What to try: The red-wine-braised lamb shank and house-made gnocchi
Who it's for: Fans of Italian cuisine seeking a polished, sophisticated dining option

Ilse Coffee – Great Barrington

In Great Barrington, Ilse’s Railroad Street café brings a grounded, thoughtful presence to one of the town’s most active corridors. The space feels in sync with its surroundings—welcoming to locals, appealing to visitors, and equally suited for a quick coffee or a longer pause. Refined but relaxed, it fits naturally into the Berkshires’ creative, design-minded landscape.

Like its Connecticut counterpart, this café is closely tied to Ilse’s roastery operation. Beans are sourced with intention and roasted in small batches, prioritizing clarity, balance, and traceability over trend-driven profiles. The result is coffee that feels precise yet accessible, whether it’s a bright pour-over or a clean, well-pulled espresso.

That connection to the roastery and to Ilse's North Canaan location is what anchors the Great Barrington location. The same hands-on approach and restrained confidence carry through both spaces, creating a cohesive experience across state lines. Together, they reflect a business built on craft, consistency, and a belief that good coffee speaks loudest when it doesn’t shout.

Parking: Street parking available along Railroad Street
Vibe: Refined yet relaxed with a focus on quality
What to try: Explore their selection of balanced pour-overs

Ilse Coffee – North Canaan

In North Canaan, Ilse Coffee feels quietly embedded in the rhythm of the town—an everyday stop that rewards repeat visits. The café carries a calm, purposeful energy: locals picking up their morning coffee, weekend visitors lingering a bit longer, and a steady hum that reflects how naturally the space fits into the community. It’s welcoming without being precious, and confident without trying too hard—exactly the kind of place that becomes part of a routine.

What sets Ilse apart is that it’s not just a café, it’s also a working roastery. Coffee is roasted in small batches with a clear focus on transparency, sourcing, and balance, resulting in cups that are nuanced but approachable. The menu highlights seasonal single-origin coffees alongside well-executed classics, all brewed with care and consistency rather than showmanship.

That roastery backbone gives the café real depth, and its influence extends beyond North Canaan. Ilse’s Great Barrington location carries the same philosophy into a busier, more urban setting, proving the model works just as well on a main street as it does in a small town. Together, the two locations reinforce Ilse’s quiet confidence and its growing role in shaping the region’s specialty coffee culture.

Irving Farm New York

Where the aroma of freshly roasted coffee meets the charm of Millerton's Main Street, Irving Farm New York offers a sensory journey from bean to cup. Step inside and find yourself enveloped in a world where artisanal roasting techniques are revered, and each cup tells a story of dedication and craft. The interior, both rustic and inviting, mirrors the understated elegance of the Hudson Valley, creating a sanctuary for both locals and travelers seeking more than just a caffeine fix.

The magic of Irving Farm lies not just in its coffee but in its commitment to community and sustainability. Here, each menu item is thoughtfully curated to complement the rich flavors of their brews, with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. Whether you're drawn in by the promise of a perfect espresso or the allure of a leisurely brunch, Irving Farm New York in Millerton promises an experience that's both grounding and invigorating, as invigorating as the rolling hills that surround this charming town.

Isabela

At Isabela in Amenia, the menu begins and ends with place. Led by Michelin Star and James Beard Award-winning chef Jose Ramierz, the casually elegant bistro is built around a simple principle he calls cocina de cercanías—a “kitchen of the nearby.” Nearly everything on the table and behind the bar comes from the Hudson Valley or the surrounding Northeast, from flour and dairy to grains, seed oils, and most of the spirits. The result is food that feels deeply rooted, quietly confident, and refreshingly honest—vegetable-forward, seasonally responsive, and shaped by what the land is offering right now.

The menu is organized by size rather than course, encouraging an easy, bistro-style flow. Warm sourdough rolls give way to greens dressed with foraged flavors, gnudi that feel both comforting and refined, and fish dishes that shine with thoughtful contrasts of texture and temperature. Trout, fluke, and oysters appear alongside vegetarian mains and sides that give equal weight to plants and proteins. Even familiar dishes reveal subtle surprises—seed-laced condiments, herbaceous broths, or clever nods to European technique filtered through Hudson Valley ingredients.

That same local sensibility carries into the bar and dining room. Cocktails riff on classics using New York–made spirits, while the wine list favors low-intervention bottles chosen to complement, not compete with, the food. Desserts are unfussy but memorable, from rotating housemade ice creams to a cult-favorite rice pudding meant for sharing. With experience in the kitchen of New York City’s Per Se, Brooklyn Fare, and Semilla, Ramirez-Ruiz has created something different here: a restaurant that feels generous, grounded, and genuinely of its community—designed not just to impress, but to welcome people back again and again.

Kingston Bread + Bar

Kingston Bread + Bar is a community-centered bakery and café in Uptown Kingston, celebrated for its naturally leavened breads, inventive sandwiches, and warm neighborhood energy. What began in 2017 as Kingston Bread Lab—a one-man home baking project with a loyal circle of weekly subscribers—has evolved into one of the Hudson Valley’s most beloved gathering spots. After early pop-ups at Rough Draft Bar & Books and popular Saturday bagel brunches, the team opened their North Front Street location in early 2020, expanding into a full all-day bakery and bar serving breakfast, lunch, coffee, and drinks.

The heart of Kingston Bread + Bar lies in its craft. Every loaf is leavened naturally with sourdough starter and fermented for at least 24 hours, using organic flours sourced from regional mills including Hudson Valley Farm Hub, Farmer Ground, Sparrowbush Farm, Champlain Valley Milling, and Maine Grains. Shaped and baked entirely by hand, the breads embody a balance of flavor, texture, and care that defines the bakery’s philosophy. Alongside its signature loaves and bagels, the kitchen turns out a rotating menu of croissants, cookies, and pastries, plus hearty favorites like the egg sandwich on a milk-bread bun and the “Il Voltrono” Italian hoagie.

Rooted in the belief that good food brings people together, Kingston Bread + Bar partners with local farmers, breweries, and vineyards to showcase the best of the Hudson Valley. Whether you stop in for a morning coffee, a weekend brunch, or a loaf to take home, the space hums with a sense of community and craft—a place where everyone is welcomed as a guest, not just a customer.

La Sorella

At La Sorella Mercato, restaurateur Scott Rosenberg introduces an “elevated casual” café–market designed for everyday ease and enjoyment. Translating to “the sister market,” La Sorella blends the roles of coffee shop, lunch spot, and neighborhood provisions store, inviting guests to linger or grab and go. The bright, airy space encourages small pauses in the day—whether that’s sipping a cappuccino, picking up a pressed sandwich, or leaving with a bag of thoughtfully chosen pantry goods, flowers, or gifts curated with home cooking in mind.

The menu is simple, flexible, and quietly satisfying, with Italian influence woven throughout. Mornings feature pastries, quiche, egg sandwiches, and smoked salmon toast, while lunch brings soups, salads, and focaccia-based sandwiches layered with ingredients like mortadella, pistachio pesto, and burrata. Drinks follow the same unfussy approach: excellent coffee, fresh juices, and a short list of classic, low-key cocktails such as an Aperol spritz or a negroni. Guests order at the counter, but hospitality remains hands-on, with food delivered to the table and staff checking in to keep the experience relaxed and welcoming.

Designed by Ford Skoglund, the interior feels calm and restorative, with banquette seating, soft lighting, and greenery that make it an appealing spot for remote work, casual meetings, or an unhurried lunch. La Sorella also plays a complementary role within Rosenberg’s growing culinary vision. Located next door and connected behind the scenes, it serves as the daytime counterpart to Il Figlio Enoteca, offering a more casual expression of the same care, craft, and hospitality that define its refined sibling.
